STAUNTON — The mother of Josiah Williams said Wednesday afternoon that her son had been moved from Augusta Health to another facility that she wanted to remain undisclosed. She said the facility won't receive any non-family visitors.

The 18-year-old Williams has been in critical condition and on life support since Friday, July 29 when the 2022 Staunton High School graduate stopped breathing and suffered cardiac arrest, according to his mom, Mishal Merchant. Friends and family have been holding vigil outside of Augusta Health since Williams was admitted.

"The vigil site at Augusta Health will remain open as is to all friends and supporters to show love and support," Merchant told The News Leader Wednesday.

Merchant also said it has meant a lot to see her son honored and respected "as the true champion he is" during this time.

"The family is beyond grateful for the entire staff at Augusta Health," Merchant said. "That has been nothing but amazing."

She also thanked the community for "all of the love, prayers and support" over the past two weeks.
