DETROIT (WWJ) - One man is in critical condition after police say he was struck by a vehicle while running across a major freeway in Detroit Wednesday evening.

Michigan State Police said troopers were dispatched just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 10 after receiving reports of a pedestrian running across the southbound lanes of M-10 near McNichols.

As police were en route, another caller reported that the pedestrian had been hit by a truck in the left lane on the northbound side of the freeway.

When police arrived on scene, they found the man, identified as an 18-year-old man, in critical condition.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, police added.

The driver of the Ram pick up truck that struck the man did stop at the scene.

At this time, police said it is unclear why the man was running across the freeway, but drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
