Denver Police arrest armed suspect after firing shots

Denver Police officers responded to a call about a person armed with a handgun in the 3900 block of Malta, a residential neighborhood in Green Valley Ranch.

DENVER — A man was taken into custody Wednesday night after he made threats to officers while armed with a gun, according to police.

At about 7:50 p.m., the Denver Police Department (DPD) received a report of a man threatening people with a gun in the 3900 block of Malta Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they confronted a man who was armed with a handgun in the backyard of a home, according to Division Chief Ron Thomas with DPD.

Officers ordered the man to surrender and when he refused, officers fired a taser, Thomas said. The use of the taser was ineffective and the man went inside the home, according to Thomas.

While inside the home, the man threatened officers with a weapon and one DPD officer fired shots, Thomas said. The man was not hit by any of the shots but did receive minor injuries during the incident, DPD reported.

Officers lost sight of the man and began giving commands for him to exit the home, according to Thomas.

The man walked out of the house and dropped the gun, police said. The man was taken into custody, according to Thomas.

Nobody else was inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said.
