An off-duty Allegheny County deputy sheriff who was shopping with his family Wednesday at Ross Park Mall helped to nab a fugitive wanted for firearm violations and a penchant for fleeing from police and evading capture, the sheriff’s department said.

The deputy sheriff, who was not identified, spotted Dejon Fuller, 25, of Carrick, and kept watch on him until more sheriff’s deputies could respond to the mall, Sheriff Kevin Kraus said.

They approached Fuller and plain-clothed deputy sheriffs took Fuller into custody peacefully and without incident.

Fuller had been featured in the Sheriff’s Office firearm-related crime fugitive list.

He was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants for theft, assault, fleeing and eluding, and flight to avoid apprehension. Fuller fled from multiple law enforcement agencies over the past several months and had successfully evaded capture, according to Kraus.

Fuller was placed into the Allegheny County Jail where he will be held on three criminal bench warrants. Fuller also faces an arraignment on new charges from Pittsburgh, Brentwood , and Castle Shannon , the sheriff said.

Sheriff Kevin Kraus could not be reached for comment late Wednesday night.
