LANSING, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Governor Gretchen Whitmer filed a new motion to prevent the enforcement of the 1931 abortion ban.

The law would ban abortions without exceptions for rape or incest and criminalize nurses and doctors who perform one.
She filed a preliminary injunction Wednesday with the Oakland County Circuit Court.
"This draconian abortion ban, which includes no exception for rape or incest, continues to be defended in court and in the public, despite the fact that 7 in 10 Michiganders support legal abortion,” Whitmer said in a statement.
She said she will continue to fight to keep abortion legal in Michigan and protect nurses and doctors from prosecution.
