Officials have identified a 41-year-old man killed in an electrical accident last month while working at the Medical University of South Carolina's campus.

Jeremiah Wiggins died the morning of July 8 at the Strom Thurmond/Gazes research building, 114 Doughty St., while working on an electrical panel, according to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal.

The coroner's office determined after an investigation that the Walterboro man died from an electrical accident.

MUSC honored Wiggins in November for 10 years of service in the university's engineering and facilities department, according to its website.

“The MUSC family continues to mourn the loss of Mr. Wiggins," said Montez Seabrook, a spokesman for the university. "The institution is cooperating with OSHA in the course of their ongoing investigation and remains committed to ensuring the safety of employees.”

The S.C. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death, a spokesperson said.

Wiggins was a member of the Free Masons' lodge in Cottageville, where he served as a past master, according to an obituary. He loved cooking, fishing, four-wheeling and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Amy Stanfield Wiggins, among others, the obituary states.
