3 Connecticut Hospitals Ranked Within Nation’s Best

I have said it before and I will say it again, we absolutely LOVE analytics in this building. A new study and ranking system out recently by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) take into account a myriad of analytics and measurements to determine the quality of care you receive in our nation's hospitals and Connecticut has three hospitals that rank among the best in America.

CMS took more than 45 measurements in five categories: mortality, the safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. According to CMS, 4500 hospitals nationwide were a part of the study, and 431 of those received the highest ranking of five stars. Sharon Hospital, Stamford Hospital, and Greenwich Hospital Association all received a five-star rating.

On the other side of the spectrum, Rockville General Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, and Bridgeport Hospital received only a 2-star rating among 702 in the nation. There were 8 Connecticut hospitals that received a 4-star rating, so overall, the state is in pretty decent shape when it comes to healthcare.

For the Connecticut Hospitals with a 5-star rating, they break down like this:  Sharon Hospital, located at 50 Hospital Hill Road in Sharon, CT and is a 78-bed Nuvance Health affiliate. Sharon Hospital's highest ratings came in four categories: Cleanliness, Staff Responsiveness, Discharge Information, and Recommend Hospital.

Stamford Hospital is located at One Hospital Plaza in Stamford. Stamford Hospital's highest ratings came in five categories: Cleanliness, Discharge Information, Quietness, Recommend Hospital, and Overall Hospital Rating.

Greenwich Hospital is located at 5 Perryridge Road in Greenwich and is a 206-bed hospital, Yale New Haven Health System Hospital. Greenwich Hospital scored the highest in four categories: Doctor Communication, Cleanliness, Recommend Hospital, and Overall Hospital Rating.

Clearly when someone recommends a hospital to someone, and it's clean, both most definitely carry a lot of weight. In contrast, my hometown hospital had a two-star rating and I won't get into the horror stories of botched, "routine" surgeries that went horribly wrong. No, we won't go there...today.
