TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A fugitive who escaped from a Wisconsin airport last year and has been on the run since was arrested in Toledo after leading police on a chase and crashing the car he was in.

According to the U.S. Marshals Cleveland post, Robert Johnson escaped while he was being transported through the Milwaukee International Airport last November. USMS Cleveland said the non-violent fugitive task force and Toledo Police arrested Johnson on Wednesday.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said last November that a private contractor was transporting Johnson to Rock County, Wisconsin, on several charges including robbery with use of force, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, and resisting or obstructing an officer. Johnson allegedly hit one of the employees responsible for the transport while in a bathroom at the rental car office there. He led them on a foot chase to the and was able to escape.

U.S. Marshals said they received a tip that directed them to search for Johnson in the area. Officials saw Johnson exit a home and get into the car and immediately tried to pull him over for a traffic stop.

Footage from Toledo Police shows Johnson leading officers on a chase throughout Toledo Wednesday before crashing the car. The suspect continues driving, eventually jumping out of the car and running away while the car continues to roll. Toledo Police arrested him shortly after and booked him in the Lucas County jail.
