70th annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo returns for the weekend
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – The rodeo is back in town. Thursday marked the first night of the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo.
General chairman of the 2022 rodeo De Bizzell describes the rodeo as a high-action event.
“You know it’s very much a family tradition here in Sikeston to come to a rodeo you know we try to pack in about two hours of fun-filled high intense… action,” said Bizzell
Action that is felt each night of the event with food, musical guests, bareback riding, and more.
It’s a great time for adults and children, who throughout the 70 years of the Sikeston Jaycee Rodeo, have kept the tradition of the rodeo alive.
“I love the rodeo. It’s great. It’s a big part of my life actually but I also wanted to be a great role model for the little girls that look up to us how queens work for me when I was little coming here,” Ryan Fritchley, rodeo queen.
The queens and the whole team at the rodeo want to spark excitement in the fans.
“And it’s neat you know that and that’s exactly why we do what we do is to entertain and put on a show for somebody,” said Cody Webster, rodeo bullfighter.
Webster says many rodeo crew members have been participating for many years and have bonded with the community.
“To see kids that I knew nine years ago that are now driving and going through town you know there’s a lot of cool relationships that we have here in Sikeston,” said Webster.
Participating for many years, Webster has bonded with the community. With many relationships and traditions made throughout the past 70 years, the rodeo hopes to continue entertaining lifelong fans while attracting new audience members.
“I mean I hate that this is going to be your first rodeo because I think you’re going to be a little spoiled after this,” said Webster.
The rodeo started Thursday, Aug. 10 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 13.
