Coroner identifies man killed in shooting outside gas station on Indy's northwest side

One man is dead after a shooting outside a gas station on Indianapolis' northwest side Wednesday afternoon.

The man was identified as 38-year-old Roland Thompson by the Marion County Coroner's Office Thursday.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were dispatched on report of a person shot in the 7900 block of North Michigan Road about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, police discovered Thompson on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Medics took him to St. Vincent's Hospital, police say. He died shortly after.

Police say they do not believe this was a random act. The investigation is ongoing.
