Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) - One person is in custody following a carjacking and police chase in Lake Charles, authorities said.

The carjacking took place on Opelousas Street around 5 p.m., according to Kayla Vincent, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office put out a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert for the vehicle.

After receiving information that the vehicle was on Enterprise Boulevard, near Prien Lake Road, a Lake Charles police officer spotted the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, according to Corp. Andrew Malveaux, with the Lake Charles Police Department.

The suspect led police on a brief pursuit before crashing at the intersection of Prien Lake Road and Fourth Avenue, Malveaux said.

The suspect then fled on foot, although they have been captured and are in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office, Vincent said.
