David D. Lodwick, 92, passed away at home surrounded by family on Aug. 5, 2022. 

David was born Mar. 15, 1930, in Excelsior Springs to John S. Lodwick and Ethel Forsyth Lodwick. He attended Excelsior Springs public schools and graduated in 1948, during which time he earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts. He attended Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant, IA and graduated with a degree in Business and Economics in 1952.  

After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corp. He earned his commission as an officer in 1952 and did his training at Quantico, Ft. Sill, Pendleton and Japan before actively serving in the Korean War. He has vivid memories of his time on Mt. Fujiyama. He continued in the reserves until he retired in 1990 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.  

After discharge from active duty, he attended the University of Michigan Law school. Upon graduation from law school, he joined his father in practice in Excelsior Springs where he worked until his retirement in 2014.  During that time, he was Clay County assistant prosecutor, City attorney and prosecutor for Excelsior Springs for 32 years. David was a lifetime member of the Missouri Bar and the Clay County Bar. He mentored many young lawyers starting their practice in the local community. 

David was an active community member serving on many boards and participating in many civic organizations. He was involved with the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Elks Club, American Legion and VFW, the Masons and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, where he ushered for over 20 years. 

He loved the outdoors. Many weekends he spent on his farm planting trees, clearing brush and just enjoying nature. He also loved traveling. His favorite place being Hawaii, where he and Audrey spent their honeymoon and returned whenever they could. They also enjoyed time in Colorado with friends, and lake time with family at the Lake of the Ozarks. 

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Lodwick; sister, Jeannette Brunenkant; brother, John Lodwick; and son-in-law Michael Reeder.  

He is survived by his wife of 61 years and the love of his life, Audrey; three daughters, Debby Reeder of Franklin, TN, Janet Sutton (Tim) of Liberty, MO, and Amy Creek (Jamie) of Liberty, MO; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

Services will be held Monday, Aug. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs.  Visitation will run 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m. A graveside military service will follow at the Masonic Cemetery.  

His family suggests memorial gifts in his honor to the First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs, the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives or charities of their choice.
