Unaka has never won a playoff game. The Rangers are 0-17 all-time in postseason play.
In 2022, they have a golden opportunity to snap that streak this season thanks to their quarterback.
Landon Ramsey.
A Player of the Week recipient a year ago, Ramsey has a cannon of an arm. On top of that, he's experienced. Ramsey enters the season starting for a fourth straight year.
It's why Unaka head coach O'Brien Bennett has the upmost trust in his senior quarterback.
“He’s been in the system. He knows the system. He’s teaching the younger kids. He’s green-lit to get up there, change the play, and adjust what he sees," said Bennett. "Having a guy you can hand the marker to on the football field, whoever holds the marker last is going to win the battle of X’s and O’s.”
Ramsey's known for his arm but expect him to use his legs more this season.
“I like it because it’s going to open up more of the passing game," said Ramsey. "If we’re able to run on teams, they’re going to pack the box, then we’re going to be able to pass all over them.”
Ramsey is optimistic this could be the year the Rangers finally win a game in postseason play.
“What excites me the most is everybody being bought in," said Ramsey. "Everybody’s here, every morning on time and ready to work. That’s what it’s about to me.”
Ramsey needs just eight more passing yards to pass his older brother, John Ramsey, as Unaka's all-time passing yards leader.
