Incident Description
An SRT Logistics truck knocked over a transformer that was in storage at the Lakeland Electric Energy Delivery Warehouse and caused the entire contents to be spilled onto the asphalt storage lot. The spill entered into an onsite stormdrain. The amount spilled was estimated to be 80 gallons. It appeared 60-70 gallons were contained on the asphalt lot and 10-20 gallons made their way to the stormdrain. The mineral oil dielectric fluid (MODEF) in that transformer had been previously analyzed by a laboratory at 10 parts per billion for PCBs. A C T Environmental was called to help us with the cleanup of the MODEF spill which included cleanup of the asphalt lot and the onsite stormdrains. Offsite stormdrains were surveyed and did not reveal any MODEF or sheen. Additionally, outfalls of the stormdrains to Lake Parker were surveyed and did not reveal any MODEF or sheen. The National Response Center (NRC) was initially called due to the fact the MODEF had entered into the stormdrain. The NRC incident number is 134-40-42. All cleanup activities have been successfully completed. For media inquiries, please contact Cathryn Lacy at 863-834-6589. or [email protected].
