(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Meals on Wheels Chicago marked its 35th anniversary on Wednesday as it faces unprecedented demand from seniors and people with disabilities.
Board president Shannon Murphy says her organization has seen a 50% rise in demand for its services since the start of the COVID pandemic.
She says government assistance has helped, but it’s dwindling. Rising food costs aren’t helping, Murphy said.
Without more donations and volunteers, Meals on Wheels Chicago can't guarantee to continue keeping pace with the rising demand, she said.
