On day two of the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, teams from around the world represented their hometowns.
It's not just a game, but a cultural experience. That's what most of the families, friends, and supporters of these 12 teams competing in the Softball World Series tournament will gain.
Ashley Becknauld, a parent who drove from Texas said, "Yes, you're coming to North Carolina, and all of the cameras are here, and big things are happening but when you start playing teams from other countries, I think that's when the families and the parents and even the players start to go wow, we've done something here."
Ed Hernandez, a supporter for Puerto Rico, says he drove all the way from New Jersey and made it just in time to see girls from Guayama, Puerto Rico play the team from Hewitt, Texas outside of Waco. He says the girls from his native country are representing the entire Latin American region.
This is an unbelievable event” said Hernandez, “I've seen girls from the Philippines from Puerto Rico, even from the United States. It's a great experience for these girls, a cultural experience.
Mothers and grandmothers, like Luisa Anes, say their teams won't just be taking away a title but new friendships from all around the world, "I think this is the best way for them to meet people, have friends and enjoy being together."
Ashley Becknauld agrees "I think that all of our girls need to see lots of different cultures and just have all of the experiences that they can."
The Midway Little League from Hewitt, Texas beat the Guayama team out of Puerto Rico. Both teams will play again later this week.
