BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced Eastern Illinois won three OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards for the 2021-22 season.
EIU represents women's basketball, men's tennis and women's tennis as the honorees for the OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards, which are given annually to the institution's team with the highest percentage of eligible student-athletes who reached a 3.25 grade point average or higher.
This marks the second straight season where EIU had at least three OVC Team Academic Achievement Award winners.
With this announcement, it was the second straight season that both women's basketball and women's tennis won the award. For women's basketball it was their OVC leading ninth overall team academic award. It marked the third award for women's tennis while men's tennis claimed the OVC team academic award for the second time in program history.
Belmont University was awarded the 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award. This award is presented annually to the OVC member with the greatest percentage of eligible student-athletes that earn a 3.25 grade point average or higher for that academic year.
Six different institutions received at least one team award for the 2021-22 season. The six schools represented from last academic year included Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri and UT Martin.
Earlier this week the OVC announced its Academic Medal of Honor Award Winners and OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipients. EIU led the OVC in total number of award winners in both of those categories with 46 Medal of Honor winners and 182 Commissioner's Honor Roll student-athletes.
