(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in Vernon Hills said they’re continuing their search for at least six people after six businesses were hit by smash-and-grab burglaries early Monday morning.

Vernon Hills police spokesman Jeff Hemesath said the thefts were at three different shopping centers: Rivertree Court, Hawthorn Hills and Hawthorn Village Commons.

He said two businesses at each shopping center were broken into and robbed.

“It appears they smashed out the front glass door, and once they were able to smash the window, the offenders targeted merchandise from the store, as well as the cash drawer,” Hemesath said. “They were able to operate pretty quickly to be in and out in less than a minute.”

Hemesath said the thieves took as much merchandise and cash as they could before fleeing.

Although police have surveillance video from at least one of the businesses, investigators said the thieves were wearing masks, which has made it difficult to identify them.

Detectives asked anyone who might have seen any of the burglaries or has information about them to contact Vernon Hills police.
