An Ode to Jed Lowrie

A while back, around the start of the 2021 MLB season, I wrote an article about one Mr. Jed Lowrie, who the A's had just signed for his 3rd tour of the A's, a tour that has now reached it's end. That end, a rather unceremonious DFA, was, in all honesty, well deserved. A .180/.245/.263 with a WRC+ of 49 (100 is league average, for reference) is not very good, to say the least. That aside however, Zombie Jed Lowrie did prove to be real (at least last year; the half-life of zombies might be shorter than once thought), but that aside, he has done very well over the years and has played some of his best baseball as an Oakland Athletic while being the consummate professional on and off the field. Even aside from that, on a personal note, he was one of my favorite A's players, so it is sad to see that the end is nigh.

To paraphrase Dr. Seuss though - don't be sad because it's over, be happy because it happened. Jed Lowrie's playing days may or may not be over now, but at the end of the day, that isn't really the point, Point is, is to take a step back and celebrate all that he has done for the Athletics over the years, and look to the future, one that will hopefully be filled with good memories and happy days.
