The 6th annual Mary Lou Hazelrigg’s Braids and Fades event will be taking place Sunday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. at Bones Hooks Park, located at 2000 N. Hughes St.

“We do this event in memory of Mary Lou Hazelrigg. This event used to be at Hazelrigg’s Park years ago, but this event has outgrown that park, so we moved it to Bones Hooks,” said Tremaine Brown, president of the organization Vessel of Humanity and Compassion.

Volunteers and hair stylists are still needed for this event. Volunteers can show up on the day of the event to help.

To qualify for the event, the children must attend school and be 5 years old or older.

Laura Grady braids Emily Martinez's hair as one of the volunteers at a previous Braids and Fades event held for students at Bones Hooks Park.
