Storm leaves path south of Bois D’Arc

Sitting a ways north off Farm Road 116, a metal building sits exposed to the elements after being compromised by the storm. The property shown is owned by Brett Snider. Snider’s home, which sits nearby, was also damaged when a tree fell onto its roof. No one was home at the time of the incident. (Photos by Ryan Squibb)

A tree pulled apart by high winds Monday evening is next to a home located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Farm Road 63 and 116. The home is owned by Ruth Ann Kossen.

An intense, severe storm not only brought rain but plenty of unrest to the Farm Road 116 area one mile south, southwest of Bois D'Arc the evening of Monday, Aug. 8. The weather system left a two mile long swathe of destruction following Farm Road 116, from Farm Road 45 to Farm Road 63, which included multiple broken power poles, downed power lines, several large trees mangled, a house which took the brunt of a falling tree, and the partial roof of a metal building stripped away. Many homes in the area were left without power for the remainder of the evening while power crews worked to restore service.
Bois D'Arc volunteer firefighters were quickly on scene following calls around 6 p.m. to cut debris with chain saws and clear roads of obstacles following the weather event which continued to present lightning and light rain long into the night.
Bois D’Arc Fire Chief Parrish Witt believed the force was likely caused by a straight line wind, and not a tornado.
