Clinton development to bring new retailers, restaurants, businesses to city

YOU CAN SEE WHAT’S HAPPENED BEHIND ME. THIS PLACE USED TO BE NOTHING BUT TREES. AND AS YOU CAN SEE NOW, THOSE TREES ARE SLOWLY AND SLOWLY BEING TAKEN AWAY THANKS TO ONE VERY POWERFUL MEMBER OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE. LATER, THEY’VE GOT AN $8 MILLION FOR INFRASTRUCTURE, EVERYTHING FROM ROADS TO WATER AND SEWER LINES. CREWS CLEARING LARGE TREES FROM A VACANT LOT IN CLINTON NEAR THE INTERSTATE. PLANNERS HOPE TO TRANSFORM THE LANDSCAPE HERE IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT DEVELOPMENT. IT’S GOING TO, I THINK, OPEN UP MANY POSSIBILITIES FOR PEOPLE TO COME TO CLINTON. THE CITY OF CLINTON IS PARTNERING WITH MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE AND A LOCAL DEVELOPER TO TURN THE SITE BETWEEN I-20 AND HIGHWAY 80 AND TO AN UPSCALE LOCATION THEY HOPE WILL ATTRACT RETAILERS, RESTAURANTS, GROCERIES AND HOTELS. AND WHAT COULD BE ONE OF THE CITY’S LARGEST DEVELOPMENTS IN HISTORY? WE WERE LOOKING AT THE LIVE WORK PLAY TYPE MODEL. SO WE’LL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE TO COME AND IF THEY WANT TO EAT, THEY CAN EAT. IF THEY WANT TO MAYBE WORK IN THEIR OFFICE BUILDING THERE. HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT AS WELL. THE BUSINESS OWNERS AND THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ARE SUPER EXCITED. CLAY MENZEL IS A MEMBER OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOARD. HE SAYS THEY’RE ALREADY GETTING LOTS AND LOTS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW DEVELOPMENT. THEY’VE HAD QUESTIONS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO LIKE, WE WANT TO LEASE SPACE, LIKE WHO WOULD THEY CONTACT FOR DEVELOPMENT? AND OF COURSE THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT’S COMING IT’S WAY TOO EARLY TO SAY WHAT’S COMING. THE SITE IS JUST PHASE ONE OF WHAT WILL BE A TWO PHASE PROJECT TO BUILD OUT BETWEEN 45 AND 50 ACRES OF LAND. WITH THE HELP OF HOUSE SPEAKER PHILIP GUNN, HIS FROM CLINTON PLANNERS MANAGED TO GET AN $8 MILLION GRANT FROM THE STATE TO BUILD OUT INFRASTRUCTURE. I THINK THAT HAVING THIS WILL ALLOW MORE PEOPLE TO COME TO CLINTON AND IT WILL JUST BE A GREAT STEPPING STONE FOR THE FUTURE. NOW, THIS IS A BIG COLLEGE AND A LOCAL DEVELOPER, BEN WALKER, PUTTING UP THE LAND. NO WORD ON HOW SOON THE FIRST BUSINESSES WILL OPEN HERE. TONIGHT, WE’RE LIVE
