Dave learns the story behind the Vision of Mercy organization

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga native Diane Moore founded “Vision of Mercy” back in May of last year. With a goal of providing non-perishable food bags and other services to the homeless.

The organization provides some 100 food bags at least once a month. At different locations.

The food bags contain canned meats and canned vegetables. According to Moore, that’s what makes her organization a bit different than others.

“We provide non-perishable food for them. And that food doesn’t just provide for that day. The person can eat for three or four days. We’re out there every month. Rain, sleet and snow. It’s important to us that we stay consistent.”

Come Saturday, Moore says she and her volunteers will branch out their services. For four hours at Miller Park in downtown Chattanooga.

Passing out 300 non-perishable food bags, as well as serving up to 350 hot meals.

Along with speakers and performers, there’ll be 10 information booths. A key point regarding the whole event.

“One of the interesting things is that we’ll have information booths. We are finding out that there are services the homeless can take advantage of……..but they don’t know where to go for help.”

There will be services for blood pressure checks, as well as information on social security. Moore says it’s all about providing knowledge to those who really need it.
