A typical shopping day at Walmart in Bradley County led to a scary situation Tuesday.
According to a Bradley County Sheriff’s Office report, Doyle Herron walked up to a shoppers car window, asked for help.
When no one helped him, Herron began shooting into the air.
A family member says Herron struggles with mental health issues and questions how police handled the situation.
A witness says when Herron was in the parking lot, he said "I'm going to take this place by storm" while holding his firearm.
However, Herron's niece Janae Milen says says there are mental health concerns at play in this situation.
"He went from, you know, being a normal functioning person to kind of delusional, hearing voices... He was telling us that God was speaking directly to him," says Milen.
Milen says Herron tried to get mental health treatment this past May and was diagnosed with delusional schizophrenia.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, his delusional disorder is a type of mental health condition in which a person can’t tell what’s real from what’s imagined.
An arrest affidavit says Herron was charged with reckless endangerment, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault on an officer, and resisting arrest.
His family says deputies went too far in how they handled the situation.

We asked BCSO Deputy Paul Allen what the protocol is for people with a mental health diagnosis when it comes to public safety.
"Whether it's somebody's mental health or not, if they have a firearm and they are threatening the public, they are going to try to disarm that person as quickly and swiftly as possible," says Allen.
Walmart released the following statement about the situation:
“We take the safety of our customers and associates very seriously. We are thankful to law enforcement for their speedy response and prompt, professional handling of this situation.”
This is a developing story and will be updated.
