Dozens of Arkansans lined up along I-430 on Tuesday afternoon to buy gas at $2.38 a gallon at Mobile Zone Mart in North Little Rock.
Ryan Norris, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Arkansas (AFP-AR), said their organization has been hosting the True Cost of Washington Tour across the nation and decided to bring it to Arkansas.
"[We are here] to highlight how the bad policies in Washington are hurting the good people of Arkansas," Norris said. "There's something they could be doing about that such as promoting energy abundance, decreasing regulations out there and promoting innovation."
Norris said $2.38 was the price gas back in January of 2021 and that they were anticipating to help 150-200 families that were able to make it through line in the two hour period.
"We have so many people coming and sharing, saying that just this little price drop that we are doing is allowing them more money in their budgets," Norris said. " Washington needs to understand that their policies do affect real lives."
This comes as the average gas price in the U.S. is $4.01 a gallon and $3.55 a gallon in Arkansas, according to AAA.
Dozens of drivers said they were relieved to be get some relief at the pump.
Jimmy Williams said he heard about the gas and left 30 minutes early just to make the trip.
"[This is] very important because [high gas prices] hurts you in your pocket book and takes away from other things that you need to do," Williams said. "This kind of helped out today, at least for the rest of the week or a couple of days."
Mike Hanbey waited for 20 minutes to get gas but says it was worth it.
"These $3, $4, $5 dollars a gallons is killing Americans," Hanbey said. "[I] try to take advantage of every penny you can get you know?"
