City officials on Wednesday announced Brenda Pree will become the next city clerk. Pree currently works in the same role for the city of Pittsburgh, a role she has been in since 2017.
In Pittsburgh, Pree’s accomplishments include creation of a citywide records management department to digitize and make available to the public municipal records dating back to the 1800s. Before arriving in Pittsburgh, Pree worked for the Fairfax County Office of Elections and as city clerk for Jackson, Miss.
In a news released issued by the city, Pree said she is committed to her new role, adding, “There’s no greater challenge and there is no greater honor than to be in public service.”
Also in the news release, City Manager Justin Clifton said he is confident in her abilities.
“Her experience working for a complex municipality such as Pittsburgh will serve her well in Palm Springs,” Clifton is quoted as saying. “We are delighted to welcome her to the executive management team at City Hall.”
Pree’s daily job duties will includes servicing as the custodian of records for the Palm Springs City Council, overseeing voting records, and attending Council meetings to keep accurate minutes. The city clerk position pays between $126,000 and $169,500.
Monique Lomeli had been serving in the city clerk’s role in Palm Springs on an interim basis after former City Clerk Anthony Mejia left for the same job in Palm Desert in February.
