A 70 year old Mayfield woman is facing 55 counts of misdemeanor animal abuse charges after the Fulton County Sheriff's Office raided a property with a warrant.
Dozens of animals have been found in what investigators describe to CBS6 as "deplorable conditions" at a property on route 349 in Mayfield in Fulton County after a complaint by a neighbor of a loose dog. It ended up with the animals being taken by local shelters for care.
Sheriff Giardino says the property is also the location where almost 300 animals, including dogs, horses, and goats were removed back in July of 2011. At the time, the owner of the property, Sue Kelly, was charged with misdemeanor Ag and Markets violations. Then, Kelly was running a non-profit taking care of animals that were neglected by others.
Giardino says she had a big heart, taking in as many animals as she could before it got out of control. Coincidentally, when she was arrested 11 years ago, Giardino was the judge who signed the warrant. He says Kelly was monitored for the three years she was on probation without incident.
On August 10th. deputies arrested Susan Kelly, charging her with 55 counts of failure to provide sustenance. She was issued appearance tickets and is due back in court at a later date.
