Baldwin hopes experience pays off for Chargers

North Montgomery boys tennis had a lot of young players a season ago. That experience is something that second-year coach Dane Baldwin pays off for his team this year.

The Chargers graduated just a single senior from last years team as they will bring back Sophomore Beckett Martin, seniors Brookes Walters and Hayden Turner, and sophomore Alex Chapman who was unable to play a season ago due to injury.

“Having some experience this year will help out tremendously,” Baldwin said of the upcoming season. “That is one of the things we lacked last year so this year should be a lot different. We’ve really been emphasizing on just working really hard in practice and playing our game.”

Despite being a young team a season ago, Baldwin had the Chargers being competitive in many of their matches, especially in the Sagamore Conference. The goal for Baldwin in year two is to progress and hopefully get a couple of SAC wins under their belt.

“The main goal is to keep tennis a fun sport for the guys so no one gets burnt out,” Baldwin added “We are also looking to get a couple more conference matches this year. We had a couple of close losses last year that we are looking to clean up this year.”

The Chargers will begin their season next Tuesday when they host Pike.
