Sultan man held on $1 million bail for alleged murder on SR 2

On Saturday at noon, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting in the 36700 block of State Route 2. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, a 39-year-old Monroe man, shot and killed. The suspect, a 23-year-old Sultan man, was taken into custody.

Detectives learned the suspect lives at the location in an outdoor building located behind his family member’s residence. The suspect made several suspicious contacts with his family member on Friday night and again Saturday morning Aug. 6.

The family member called her friend to come over to her residence while she filled out paperwork for a DV no-contact order. Her friend, a 39-year-old Monroe man, arrived at her residence and attempted to go inside. He was confronted by the 23-year-old suspect at the door, and a physical altercation ensued but was broken up.

Both men exited the residence and walked to a parking lot outside. Video surveillance showed the victim and suspect talking to each other from approximately 10-15 feet apart. The 39-year-old victim turned and began walking away from the suspect.

As the victim was walking away, the suspect fired at the victim multiple times, and he collapsed on the ground. The 23-year-old suspect walked over to the victim lying on the ground and discharged his firearm again.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Snohomish County Jail, where he was booked for second-degree murder.

His bail was set at $1 million.
