Rescue teams carry hiker off Long Trail on Camel's Hump
Several crews of rescuers were successfully able to help a hiker who got stuck on Camel's Hump on Tuesday.
Waterbury Backcountry Rescue said a total of 23 rescuers assembled to help a 69-year-old hiker who needed assistance descending the mountain.
The hiker told rescuers that he started experiencing chest pains around 1:30 p.m. while ascending the Long Trail south of the summit. He was able to call his cardiologist who recommended he stop moving until rescuers could reach him.
The first EMTs were able to reach the man around 6 p.m. Treatment was administered at the scene but the man was unable to hike down with assistance. He was then placed in a litter and carried before he was eventually picked up by an ATV and brought to the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Members of Stowe Mountain Rescue, Barre Town EMS and Camel's Hump Back Country Rescue Team were all part of the rescue effort.
