One of the most hyped prospects of the 2023 high school class is Arch Manning, who ended speculation of where he would be playing college football when he announced back in June that he would play for the Texas Longhorns in 2023.
Manning is an intriguing prospect just off his last name alone to the average college football fan, but Eli Manning, Arch’s uncle says that he is a very different player than he or Peyton Manning were during their playing career.
“He’s more athletic than Peyton or I,” said Manning via The New York Post. “Maybe a little bit bigger than Peyton or I, and so I think he’s got the ability to scramble around and run around — probably more similar to my dad (Archie) than Peyton or I.”
Eli and Peyton were traditional pocket-passers at the quarterback position with extremely limited scrambling ability, so this isn’t exactly the most shocking admission from Eli.
Arch is also a two-sport athlete who plays basketball at Isodore Newman High School for a team that won the Louisiana state championship, so it certainly makes sense why he is a bit more mobile of a player than his uncles are.
As Arch prepares for the Longhorns, Eli gave him some advice about how to handle the situation of already being committed to a college team heading into his senior year of high school football.
“Now he can just go enjoy his senior year,” Eli said. “Go play football and try to win some football games and be a great teammate and don’t have to worry about the next step. He’s going to a great spot, great history of football in Texas, and excited to get to watch him.”
Arch will certainly have a ton of eyes on him when he heads to Texas, and it will certainly be interesting to see if he can live up to the hype during his college career.
