Family members and members of the Danville Police and Fire Departments were on hand Wednesday morning in the Danville City Council Chambers for the swearing in of two new firefighters, two new probationary police officers, and one police officer promotion to lieutenant.
The sworn-in firefighters are Trae Ford and Jason Toth. Fire Chief Don McMasters said this brings the team to full capacity, which is the safe way to go.
AUDIO: We have a couple of people off on injuries but otherwise we are at full staff as of now. And that’s very important so that guys, on top of everything else, aren’t having to work a bunch of overtime which then makes them tired; potentially get injured, fires and so forth.

The new probationary police officers are Noah Darr and Zane Reining. Police Chief Christopher Yates stated he intends to have the amount of Danville Police Officers up to 70, as soon as he finds the right candidates to join the team.
AUDIO: We’ll be there as soon as we can cultivate the best potential of officers that we can bring on to the department. That’s very important. I’ll go short until we can find the high quality officers that we want to this department to represent our community.

Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says it’s always an honor to swear in new first responders serving the community, and he’s been blessed to have done it many times.
AUDIO: Deputy Chief just informed me that I’ve actually sworn in half of the police; so to have sworn in over half of the police and fire, that’s awesome. That means we have a lot of bright young men and women who are committed to making this city as safe as it can possibly be, and that sure makes me proud.
Police Chief Yates stated that that he’s hoping to have more personnel to swear in in September; while Fire Chief McMasters says his department is running out of candidates on their current testing eligibility list. So anyone interested in testing to become a firefighter, please contact Chief McMasters, or watch the city web site for upcoming testing dates.
