SCHOOL CALEB CALIFANO WPBF 25 NEWS. >> ON THE TREASURE COAST, THE SUPERINTENDENT OF ST. LUCIE PUBLIC SCHOOLS PERSONALLY WELCOMED STUDENTS BACK TO CLASS TODAY. JADE JARVIS IS LIVE OUTSIDE SAMUEL S. GAINES ACADEMY OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES ONE OF FOUR STOPS FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT THIS MORNING. YOU CAN SEE ALL THE STUDENTS BEING WELCOMED BACK. >> WELCOME BACK. WE WANT ST. AND WE’VE GOT A TEACHER IN FRONT OF YOU AND WE’RE READY TO GO. >> AFTER GREETING BUS DRIVERS AT THE SOUTH COUNTY BUS DEPOT IN PORT ST. LUCIE. DR. PRINCE TOOK A RIDE TO C.A. MOORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN FORT PIERCE STANDING ALONGSIDE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS TO WELCOME KIDS BACK TO THEIR CLASSROOMS. AFTER C.A. MOORE DR. PRINCE ENDED HIS TOUR AT GAINES ACADEMY GREETING STUDENTS INSIDE THE AUDITERIA CHATTING WITH KIDS ABOUT WHAT THEY’RE EXCITED FOR THIS YEAR. WE SPOKE WITH A FATHER-SON DUO AT C.A. MOORE WHO SHARED WITH US WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO. >> TELL ME ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. >> I FEEL A LITTLE NERVOUS, BUT I FEEL GOOD. >> I’M EXCITED TO SEE ALL THE KIDS GO BACK AND ESPECIALLY HIM, THIS IS HIS LAST YEAR OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HE’S A FIFTH GRADER. The superintendent of St. Lucie Public Schools personally welcomed students back to class Wednesday.Dr. Jon Prince started his day at the south county bus depot in Port St. Lucie. He said district officials are excited to be back for a hopefully very normal year.“Welcome back! We want St. Lucie Public Schools to be the best part of your day so very excited to get all of our students back. And we’ve got a teacher in front of you and we’re ready to go!” Prince said.WATCH: WPBF 25 News Back-to-School special After greeting bus drivers at the bus depot, Prince visited Fort Pierce Central High School, before taking a ride to C.A. Moore Elementary School in Fort Pierce standing alongside school administrators and teachers to welcome kids back to their classrooms.Prince ended his tour at Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies in Fort Pierce, greeting students inside the school’s ‘auditeria’ (auditorium and cafeteria) and chatting with kids about what they’re excited about this year.“I’m excited to see all the kids go back and especially him, this is his last year of elementary school, he’s a fifth grader. Preferably, he’ll make it through fifth grade and we’ll send him off to middle school next year,” Jonathan Warthen Sr., a parent of a fifth grader at C.A. Moore Elementary School, said.South Florida: School districts assess staffing as school year beginsThis year is already off to a strong start for the district.It has a surplus of bus drivers and only 13 teacher openings left to fill.
