PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A forest near Holly Ridge has grown this afternoon to more than 1,000 acres.

The fire remains inside the Holly Shelter Game Lands in neighboring Pender County.

Earlier today, Pender County said the wildfire was some 150 acres in size, but this afternoon Onslow County said it now tops 1,000 acres.

Smoke from the fire could impact Maple Hill, Holly Ridge, and other areas along the Onslow County and Pender County borders, according to a press release from Pender County. Authorities warn that as the fire continues to burn, smoke could cause reduced visibility on area highways.

Crews from the two counties, along with the North Carolina Forest Service are working on a plan to contain the fire.

The Forest Service said the fire, which began on Tuesday, was 0% contained this afternoon and so far no injuries have been reported.

Onslow County says no homes are threatened as the fire remains within the game lands.
