The Oswego Fire Protection District will again ask voters to approve a .10 percent tax increase. The measure will be on the general election ballot in November. It's the district's third attempt. The fire board of trustees voted on it Monday.

Board President Dick Kuhn says the tax is a necessity for the district to maintain its services.

The measure was shy just a few votes of passing during June primary election. Because it was so close, the district conducted a discovery recount, but found no errors in the vote.

Kuhn says the district applies for the all grants it can, but that it isn't enough.

The district first asked for the tax in the April consolidated election last year where it was rejected by voters.

The district covers 53 square miles and includes all of Oswego, and portions of Montgomery, Plainfield, and Yorkville. It also extends into Will County. The district says that it's been twenty years since the last time new funding has been approved. The district also says its responding to more calls and needs to replace and maintain aging equipment.
