Things to eat will be part of Marshall Township Community Day on Aug. 27 in Knob Hill Community Park.

School may have started in North Allegheny, but summer fun will still be going strong at Marshall Township’s Community Day to be held Aug. 27 at Knob Hill Community Park, located off Knob Road.

The event will run from 4 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m., closing with a fireworks display by Zambelli Fireworks, according to Marshall Township Manager Julie Bastianini.

The annual event will feature crowd favorites of things to eat, music to hear and games to play. This year’s community day includes eight food vendors, air brush tattoos, face painting, a balloon artist, caricature drawing, and a petting zoo. Children can also get a close-up look at various township or emergency trucks in a “touch-a-truck” activity, according to Bastianini.

Other offerings include kids’ inflatables, a super trampoline Euro Bungee, and a mechanical pirate ship.

Three mobile escape rooms, rented from the company ELF, or Everyone Loves Fun, will run simultaneously with the themes, Temple Ruins, Creepy Nursery and Military Escape, according to Bastianini.

Onstage entertainment includes the Bell School of Irish Dance and the Soul Searchers band.

Multiple vendor booths will be on display, including one for the township’s proposed implementable comprehensive plan, which will help shape and plan for future development and land preservation in Marshall.

“Community Day is an opportunity for our residents, businesses and community organizations to come together and celebrate all that makes Marshall Township such a great place,” Bastianini said.

The event is planned by Marshall Township Recreation Director Jessica Drozd, with the help of the Parks and Recreation Committee, Bastianini said.

“It truly is a whole community effort, well supported by the Marshall Township Board of Supervisors, and we are thankful for the support of township businesses who provide donations, our public safety community for their participation, and the many organizations who help make it such a special day by hosting a booth,” Bastianini said.

The Marshall Township 2022 budget allocated $30,000 for Community Day, which was the same as the 2021 budget allocation. Bastianini said the cost of the event is supplemented by generous donations from local businesses.

Community Day was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but returned in 2021.

“We are thrilled to be offering the event again this year and look forward to a wonderful time,” she said.

The first day of school in the North Allegheny School District is Aug. 22.
