Joanna Jane (Wilkerson) Bartels
Joanna Jane (Wilkerson) Bartels was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Bayard, Nebraska, to Charlotte Poppe Oppedal and Joseph Lamborn. Joanna grew up and attended school in Bayard.
In January of 1949, Joanna married Merl Davidson and to this union two daughters were born: Judy and Joyce. She later married Fred Wilkerson in November of 1997 and the couple made their home in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
In 2009 Joanna moved to Imperial where she met Robert Bartels. The couple married on Oct. 29, 2016. Joanna and Bob made their retirement home in Imperial where they enjoyed the company of family and many friends.
Joanna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial. She enjoyed dancing and visiting with friends at the coffee club. Joanna loved spending time with family and friends, especially her daughter Joyce and all her grandchildren.
Joanna was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter Judy Davidson Jaeger; a sister; and two brothers.
Joanna passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 2, 2022, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial. She was 88 years of age.
Survivors include daughter Joyce Terryberry and husband Steve of Imperial; five grandchildren Joshua (Kerri) Jaeger, Jerome Jaeger, Stephanie (Tom) Rau, Matt (Carrie) Terryberry, Daniel (Vanessa) Terryberry; 13 great-grandchildren Jarod (McKayla) Jaeger, Jayden (Sophia) Jaeger, Kacy (Elias) Engbrecht, Kyleigh Jaeger, Paige Jaeger, Nathanael Rau, Nickolas Rau, Noah Rau, Markenna Terryberry, Carson Terryberry, Parker Terryberry, Trace Terryberry, Kye Terryberry; one great-great-grandchild Grace Lynn Jaeger; and brothers Victor Lamborn, Russell Lamborn, and Bernard Oppedal.
Memorial services for Joanna were held Monday, Aug. 8, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church, Imperial, with Pastor Scott Adle officiating. Inurnment followed at Green Lawn Cemetery, Lamar, Nebraska.
No visitation, Joanna chose cremation.
A memorial in Joanna’s memory has been suggested to the Rainbow Promise Preschool of Imperial.
