DETROIT LAKES — A $1.7 million school improvements bond was shot down by Ulen-Hitterdal School District voters on Tuesday — 285 “no” votes to 123 “yes” votes, or 70% to 30%.
The school district was asking voters for authority to issue general obligation school building bonds up to $1,715,000 “for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, construction of a multi-use activity center,” according to the ballot question.
The measure was rejected in every Clay County precinct, with the closest vote coming in the city of Ulen, with 68 “no” votes to 53 “yes” votes.
Here’s how other precincts voted:
- In Ulen Township, the measure was rejected 33 votes to 15 votes.
- In the city of Hitterdal, the vote was 53 to 5 against the measure.
- In Keene Township the vote was 28 to 1 against the measure.
- Highland Grove Township voters rejected the measure 18 votes to 3 votes.
- Hagen Township voted 18 to 11 against the measure.
- Goose Prairie Township rejected the plan 42 to 9.
- No votes were cast in Flowing Township.
- The one person who voted on the measure in Cromwell Township gave it a thumbs-down.
The measure fared better in Becker County, where it was approved by voters 11 to 9 in Atlanta Township and passed 2-0 in Cuba Township. It failed 15 to 13 in Walworth Township, however.
