BELVIDERE — One person was killed and two others were injured during a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in the westbound lanes of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near Belvidere Road, police said.

Police responded to the crash at 6:36 a.m., according to Illinois State Police master sgt. Steve Jurevis.

“Right now it appears to me that there are two semi-trucks and one passenger vehicle that were involved,” Jurevis said. “But as far as exactly what happened, they’re conducting an investigation.”

The name of the person who was killed has not been released. Two other people were hurt, but police did not believe their injuries were life-threatening.

All three westbound lanes of the tollway near the crash scene were closed for the investigation. Westbound traffic was being diverted off at Route 23 for extended lane closures near Belvidere, according to police.

The westbound right lane of the tollway has since reopened to traffic, according to Sgt. Jurevis.
