A North Dighton man faces multiple charges stemming from an alleged attack at an Auburn gas station.
On July 31, Auburn police responded to a witness report that a man had attacked two women at a gas station on Route 12 and then fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the department.
The man, who was later identified as Kyle Fitta, 30, of North Dighton, couldn’t complete a transaction via credit card, according to an investigation by the police. Fitta then allegedly punched the 19-year-old female clerk in the face. When the clerk’s mother, who was also the manager, tried to intervene, Fitta allegedly began attacking her, too, the police said.
The mother and daughter were both punched, kicked and thrown against the store’s display floor. The alleged attack resulted in the daughter getting a broken nose, a black eye and a cut above her left eye that required stitches, according to police. Meanwhile, the mother got a black eye, cuts and bruises and a back injury, the police said.
An Auburn man witnessed the attack, went inside the gas station and screamed for Fitta to stop which ended the attack, according to the police. However, Fitta stole the mother’s keys and phone before he left, police said.
Police said Fitta then fled onto the Mass Pike in a vehicle where he caused a crash. He then allegedly assaulted another motorist and resisted arrest by Massachusetts State Police troopers, police wrote.
When state police arrested Fitta they recovered the mother’s phone and her keys from Fitta’s vehicle. As of now, Fitta is charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of malicious destruction of property, the Auburn police said.
