(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two suburban Chicago men were convicted for their role in a Mexico-to-Chicago drug pipeline, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

Using wiretapped cell phones and other forms of surveillance, federal law enforcement began investigating Sheldon Morales of Morton Grove and Eduardo Santana of Skokie.

Authorities said in 2019 both men conspired with a drug supplier in Mexico and several prison inmates in Texas to traffic drugs from Mexico to Evnston and Morton Grove.

Those drugs, including meth, fentanyl, and cocaine, were then sold across the Chicago area.

After being convicted on drug conspiracy charges, Morales, 40, faces at least 15 years behind bars.

Santana, 45, will spend at least 10 years in prison.
