A high-speed chase in Lawrence County, Kentucky, resulted in four people being arrested on various charges, deputies said.

Larry Joel Maynard, Michael May, Rachel Mills and Charles Hensley all face charges after deputies said they initially observed a vehicle driven by May pass in a no passing zone on KY 32, according to a news release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the vehicle began to accelerate when they attempted to stop it and then pulled onto a gravel road where Maynard, 48, of Louisa, jumped out and began running while allegedly throwing a bag into the weeds.

After a short pursuit, deputies said they apprehended Maynard and found what appeared to be methamphetamine in his sock. A similar substance was in the bag that he allegedly tossed, the news release said.

May allegedly continued to drive the vehicle from deputies before it was found abandoned near a camper. Deputies said May was found during a search of the woods nearby.

Two people, Mills and Hensley, were found at the camper and taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

May was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, improper passing, fleeing or evading in a motor vehicle and fleeing or evading on foot.

Maynard was charged with fleeing or evading on foot, trafficking in a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

All four people were taken to Big Sandy Detention Center.
