There is more good news to share as the dog days of summer roll on -- more than half of the 4,000 beagles at the Envigo breeding facility in Virginia have now been rescued, according to the Humane Society.

Foster parents lined up outside Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Arlington on Thursday, as they were waiting to wrap their arms around their new furry friends.

Staff members at Lucky Dog spent the afternoon working to place the beagles in the hands of foster parents, who will care for them before they find their fur-ever homes.

Foster parents in Lynchburg were also able to welcome a number of the beagles last week.

A few of the 4,000 rescued beagles from the breeding facility ended up at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

The animal shelter said they welcomed 16 beagles into their facility Monday afternoon, adding that they expect to receive more beagles in the coming months.

In July, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, shared several photos of the dogs with The National Desk, which included shots of dead puppies that were deemed “eviscerated."

In one of the captions, PETA noted that during the course of an investigation, authorities found more than 350 puppies dead in cages with their mothers and littermates.

Some dead puppies were found with severe injuries and even missing legs," according to another caption.

Other images showed the dogs confined to kennels.

Some puppies had been inadvertently crushed to death by their mothers inside the cramped cages, while others suffered from hydrocephalus (in which fluid builds up inside the skull and puts pressure on the brain), were eviscerated, or just couldn’t survive the harsh conditions," PETA said regarding the investigation.

Now, the surviving animals are safe.

WJLA's Bill Kelly recently announced that his family is now fostering a beagle mom and her six-week-old puppies. The beagle family is expected to stay with the Kellys for about two weeks before they are officially adopted.
