Columbus Police Department is investigating four shootings that happened over the weekend, according to a CPD press release.
Two people were injured and two homes were struck, Police Chief Fred Shelton said.
The first incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. Friday on Byrnes Circle near Waterworks Road when someone called 911 and said several shots had been fired in his direction, but he had not been hit.
A second person at the same place said his vehicle was struck by gunfire, but neither person was hurt.
Later that evening, in the 900 block of Waterworks Road, someone called 911 about 10:10 p.m. and said that they heard four gunshots and breaking glass in their home. Police found glass on a door broken out, and bullet holes in the house.
“We think the house was hit by stray rounds from the shooting on Byrnes Circle,” Shelton said.
A third round of gunplay happened Saturday just before midnight when police were called to the 1400 block of 21st Street North. That time police found a man who had been shot in the leg lying in the street near 15th Avenue North and 21st Street North.
He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle by ambulance and later transferred to a Jackson hospital.
“We have video evidence from the area and we are analyzing that now,” Shelton told The Dispatch Wednesday morning.
A resident of that same area reported that their home had been hit by gunfire, and police recovered a bullet and shell casings from the scene.
The fourth, and final, shooting was reported at midnight in the 1900 block of Second Avenue North. A man was walking home and asked another man for a cigarette, and the man he asked did not respond. As the two walked away from each other, the second man turned and fired, hitting the victim in the arm.
The victim described the suspect as wearing a gray hoodie with glasses and a black mask. The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he was treated and released, Shelton said.
Shelton asked anyone with any information to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or use the P3 smartphone app. Tips are anonymous, and may bring a cash reward if they lead to an arrest.
