Schade Completes Track & Field Coaching Staff

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott announced Wednesday the hiring of Krystle Schade as the track and field program's short sprints and horizontal jumps coach.

She comes to VMI from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where she served as the associate head track and field/cross country coach from 2018-21 and worked primarily with the jumpers.

"After a long search with a solid list of qualified applicants, Krystle completes our staff as our short sprints and horizontal jumps coach," Scott said. "She not only brings her knowledge to our team as a short sprints and jumps coach with experience coaching all levels from high school through the Division 1 ranks, but also the personal experience of earning multi-year Division 1 SEC titles as she was an All-American and Olympic Trials qualifier at the University of Alabama."

Prior to UWSP, Schade coached at Denison University in Ohio where she was an assistant coach for jumps and hurdles for the one season. During her tenure at Denison, she coached two school record holders, nine all-conference honorees, two conference champions, three all-region selections and an NCAA DIII qualifier. During this season, she also coached two Junior Olympic qualifiers and one Masters level World qualifier.

Before arriving at Denison, Schade spent a season at the University of Texas-Arlington where she guided conference champions in the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump along with six all-conference athletes.  In 2016, she was at Florida International University coaching an All-American, two NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers and several all-conference athletes.

From 2010-13, Schade coached high school track at various schools in Alabama, working mainly with jumpers and throwers and sent multiple athletes to the state meet.

As a student-athlete, Schade was an eight-time All-American high jumper at the University of Alabama.  She placed second in the 2012 indoor high jump, one of four indoor All-American honors.  She was named the 2010 SEC Indoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year.  In 2012, she tied the SEC Indoor record with a conference-title-winning height of 1.87 meters (6'2").  Schade also participated in the 2009 Pan American Junior Championshipthe 2012 Olympic trials, and the 2021 Olympic Trials.
