This week, charges were announced against her brother, 20 year old, Edward Vincent Baynard. He's charged with murder, unlawful neglect and cruelty to animals. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says, over 40 animals were seized from the home.

The living conditions at the family's Gaffney area home were described as deplorable, as the home was said to be filled with urine, feces, maggots and roaches. Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller said in the day following the girl's death that it was "the worst case of neglect we've ever seen in this county".
