As fans await the release of The 1975's forthcoming fifth studio album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, set to arrive in October, some of frontman Matty Healy's friends and contemporaries are already heaping praise on the new recordings.

In a new expansive interview with Pitchfork, Healy reveals that his pal Taylor Swift was given an early listen to the new 1975 album, fittingly as her folklore collaboration partner Jack Antonoff is also listed as a producer on the new collection. He says Swift summed it up in just three words: “It’s so funny.”
Regarding the band employing Antonoff on the upcoming release, Healy admits, "People may think that it’s ‘uncool’ to work with the biggest producer in the world — I don’t give a f***... I wanna make a great f***ing record." He adds, "Jack doesn’t get enlisted by a lot of the best artists because he’s some go-to guy — Jack’s good."

Healy also says that he played the soon-to-be-released album for his friend, comedian Bo Burnham, saying it made him happy that Bo laughed at all the right times. Although, he says with a smirk that when he heard Burnham’s 2021 song, "That Funny Feeling," which tackles the same topics of his own "Love It If We Made It," Bo, "needs to stay in his lane a little bit... When he did that song," Matty adds, "I was like, ‘You motherf***er.’"
Comedic value within the record; "there’s a mom joke, a QAnon joke, a joke about a 10-year-old who is ‘obsessed with fat ass'," as the interview states, is all part of the plan. “There are so many good d*** jokes on the record. It’s all about my d***," Healy explains. "I’m obsessed with my d*** for some reason. I’m trying to figure out what that represents. I think it’s because there’s such potency to the idea of the d***, and so much fragility in modern masculinity, and my masculinity. I’m obsessed with that duality, of just, like, having a d***.”
"We’ve done very clever and very cool a lot," Matty adds. "But what about—brace yourself—earnest. If you dethrone sincerity with irony, you get an equal tyrant by the end of the day, and I’m kind of tired of it. Because what makes me feel uncomfortable is saying, like, ‘Do you mind telling me that I’m good, or that you love me, just so I can feel OK?’ That’s the s*** I’m scared of, being seen as some f***ing lame dude."
