Cedar Crest grad Joseph Carpenter may not have been selected in last month's Major League Baseball amateur draft, but he will nonetheless get a shot at playing professionally.

That opportunity was assured on Tuesday, when Carpenter signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League.

Cedar Crest grad Joseph Carpenter is a formidable hitter in the University of Delaware lineup during his college career. On Tuesday, Carpenter signed a professional contract with the Lancaster Barnstormers.

In his final season at the University of Delaware this spring, Carpenter hit .310 with 8 home runs and 41 RBIs and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in addition to earning second team All-Star status in the Colonial Athletic Association.

A first baseman, Carpenter will wear No. 33 and was expected to be in uniform Wednesday night when Lancaster hosts Long Island.
