Cedar Crest grad Joseph Carpenter may not have been selected in last month's Major League Baseball amateur draft, but he will nonetheless get a shot at playing professionally.
That opportunity was assured on Tuesday, when Carpenter signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League.
In his final season at the University of Delaware this spring, Carpenter hit .310 with 8 home runs and 41 RBIs and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in addition to earning second team All-Star status in the Colonial Athletic Association.
A first baseman, Carpenter will wear No. 33 and was expected to be in uniform Wednesday night when Lancaster hosts Long Island.
