Former Evans baseball player Elliott Melton (sliding) made his debut as a professional baseball umpire in 2022. Melton was assigned to the series between the Augusta GreenJackets and Fayetteville Woodpeckers at SRP Park last week.

The owner of the Augusta GreenJackets is selling the club and nine others to a technology investment firm.

According to a news release, Endeavor Group Holdings Inc., is selling its minor league division Diamond Baseball Holdings to Silver Lake.

“Ultimately our relationship with (Major League Baseball) and the (Major League Baseball Players Association) took priority, given the importance of our overall agency business and our continued investment in our baseball representation practice within (talent agency) WME Sports,” said Mark Shapiro, the president of Endeavor.

Diamond Baseball owns 10 teams, including the GreenJackets, a Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves; the Rome Braves, a High-A Braves affiliate; and the Gwinnett Stripers, a Triple-A Braves affiliate.

“We look forward to working closely with Silver Lake and continuing the momentum in championing Minor League Baseball,” said Pat Battle and Peter Freund, who will remain executive chairman and CEO of Diamond Baseball.

Diamond acquired the GreenJackets in December 2021, with Jeff Eiseman remaining the club's president. The team plays at SRP Park, the centerpiece of North Augusta's riverfront development.

The sale is expected to be completed before the end of 2022. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
