Man charged with shooting, killing brother in Shively claims it was in self-defense

Police say Latoine Pruitt was the one who called 911 following the shooting saying that shot his brother after he "hit him, knocking his glasses off."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Shively Police Department have charged a man with shooting and killing his brother following an alleged argument early Wednesday morning.

According to a department spokesperson, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Ecton Lane in Shively around 6:30 a.m. after someone reported a shooting in the area.

Once on the scene, they found 45-year-old Deandre Jones laying in the driveway of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they've arrested 31-year-old Latoine Pruitt as the suspect.

According to his arrest citation, Jones' mother was standing outside the residence when police arrived. She entered the home with police and told Pruitt to come upstairs saying police wanted to speak with him.

Officers asked what he did with the weapon and Pruitt told police it was downstairs. They then found the gun on his bed in his downstairs bedroom.

Pruitt told police he and his brother had got into an argument and said he shot Jones "in self-defense."

The arrest citation states that when another family member came into the home and asked what happened, Pruitt quickly stated that Jones was allegedly on top of him, hitting him.

Police say Pruitt was the one who made the 911 call to police following the shooting saying that shot his brother after he "hit him, knocking his glasses off."

Pruitt has been charged with murder and is currently lodged at the Louisville Metro Detention Center. His cash bond is set at $100,000.
